This week’s Alumni Spotlight is Gbope Adeduro! Gbope is a computer science major at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Maryland who is on track to graduate next year! During the 2024 Workshop Season, she returned to PeerForward as a member of the Alumni Support Team where she supported our Peer Leaders as they worked towards attaining their Workshop goals. We caught up with Ghope to discuss her college experience thus far and why she chooses to serve:
Why do YOU serve as a PeerForward Alumni?
I served because I know what it felt like to have no help, and being in a community where you can help others while receiving help is just very beneficial.
What’s been the best part of attending your college/university?
The best part of attending my college is the community. I am surrounded by people who are sacrificing two years of fun, just like me, for a more financially secure future. I am also surrounded by loved ones.
How did PeerForward change your perspective of college?
PeerForward made me realize that college isn’t hard. It may seem like an intimidating concept, but anyone is capable of getting a degree.
How have you been a positive influence to your peers in college?
I advise my peers to go out and do things that they don’t do everyday, whether it be taking a different route to school or studying at a new location. Since I attend a community college, many of my peers have a fear of missing out. I advise them to explore their wants by doing things like visiting a campus they may want to transfer their credits to, investing in themselves, or find a new hobby.
What’s one piece of college advice you’d offer Peer Leaders?
My advice to Peer Leaders is to always look to your own path. Someone’s else path may look magnificent, but everyone’s else path is uniquely created for them. Don’t get distracted by anyone else’s path, just look to your own.
