PeerForward Alumni like Lydia Sampson carry the flame of a Peer Leader long after their Workshop. This week, our Alumni Spotlight is on Lydia, a senior at Lynn University majoring in Biology on a premed track. We caught up with her to ask about her college life and discuss why she chooses to serve as a PeerForward Alumni:
Why do YOU serve?
I serve as a PeerForward Alumni because this program brought me so much joy when I was a Peer Leader. I want to give back and make other people happy as well. Having new connections and people actually caring about you matters. Serving as an Alumni is also a great opportunity for personal growth.
What has been the best part of college so far?
The best part about attending my university is that I get to do different research projects with my professors. My professors are very hands on with their students and it makes me happy to know they want to see me win.
How did PeerForward change your perspective of college?
PeerForward changed my perspective of college by making me really excited to have a new start to my life. PeerForward helped me realize that, even if you don’t have a lot of money, the sky is the limit.
How have you been a positive influence on your peers in college?
I greet everyone with a smile. Giving compliments to people makes them feel confident and happy. My favorite thing is to see people smile.
What’s one piece of college advice you’d offer Peer Leaders?
My advice would be that even when you are going through a tough moment in your life, try to look for something good that happens each day. Don’t get caught up in the bad moments of your day. Life is always going to have its up and downs, so make sure you don’t get caught in the down.
