Meet this week’s Forward Thinker Spotlight: Nicari Godoy!
Nicari is a senior at Friendship Technology Prep Academy who has been making big moves lately. She is a shining example of what it means to be a Peer Leader! We recount her recent achievements below:
On September 21st, Nicari participated in a panel at the 2023 US Department of Commerce National Youth Summit. During this panel, she discussed her Peer Leader experience. She touched on what it means to be a motivation to others, and how she aims to help her peers understand their true potential. You can listen to one of her responses here.
On October 18th, Nicari was awarded the Illuminate your Black Brilliance Leadership Award Scholarship presented by Urban Smartt and Aleya Productions at the 3rd annual Illuminate your Black Brilliance Youth Awards Ceremony. In her acceptance speech, she discussed how receiving this award helped her realize her worth: “When I received the news that I was nominated for this scholarship, I didn’t think I was as deserving as other people…on the first day of my senior year, my 11th grade reading teacher told me I won. That really opened my eyes to how worthy I am of opportunities like this. It made me pay attention to the colleges that really wanted me, and other scholarships I was nominated for like the Posse Scholarship and moving forward in that process.” You can watch more of her acceptance speech here.
