PeerForward volunteers are dedicated to uplifting the next generation of students and helping them realize their full potential. Our Volunteers come from all walks of life, including Jeremiah O’Bryant, who spends his days as a technical assistance coordinator for District Bridges.

Jeremiah returned to PeerForward as a College Coach during our 2023 Cal State LA Workshop season. We caught up with him to ask about what drives him to serve others:
What drives you to serve first-generation, low-income students?

What drives me is my desire to support low-income students as they explore their interests and identify their purpose in this world. Listening to their wants and needs will allow for their purpose to unfold into everything they wish to become.
Please describe the impact of the PeerForward/College Summit volunteering experience.
Each year, I get a chance to assist students from all walks of life by listening to their amazing stories and learning about their ambitions to attend college and begin their careers. From the smiles to their origin stories, I get a chance to live again through the young scholars as they identify their interests, goals, and aspirations for the endless possibilities of today’s world.

In your opinion, why should low-income students pursue postsecondary education?
Pursuing postsecondary education can create a life separate from home and surroundings that look familiar to their childhood or young adult life. In attending a postsecondary institution, students can identify their true gifts and interests alongside other ambitious students as they strive for achievement.
