Khadeejah Woods is a beloved and active member of our PeerForward Alumni community. In December of 2024, she graduated from Morgan State University with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Psychology as a first-generation college student. Today, we want to take the time to highlight her for this momentous achievement and talk to her about her involvement in PeerForward’s new Operations Cohort!

What does it mean to you to earn this degree?

To earn this degree means to be able to work and achieve something bigger than me. A bachelor’s degree is a foundational qualification for professional success in many fields. For example, as an aspiring school psychologist, it’s one of my many stepping stones to pursuing graduate education, which is required for that role.

What role did PeerForward play in your journey to and through college?

PeerForward provided me with a supportive environment to grow while connecting with like-minded individuals. Through this program, I had the privilege of being surrounded by mentors and peers who not only motivated me to pursue higher education but also supported and encouraged me throughout my four years of undergrad. I am profoundly grateful for the invaluable impact these individuals have had on my journey and I hope to one day leave a similar impact.

How did your friends/peers influence, inspire, or motivate you toward your degree? How did you do the same for others?

My peers and I supported and inspired one another by organizing study sessions and offering encouragement during challenging and overwhelming times. We also found solace and focus through faith-centered music. I was fortunate to build a community of individuals who shared my beliefs, providing mutual support throughout my college journey. In turn, I strive to offer the same support to others by staying connected with friends who are still pursuing their undergraduate studies, reminding them that they have a reliable support system in me, even from a distance.

What was the biggest obstacle to your postsecondary education and how did you overcome it?

The most significant obstacle I faced in my postsecondary education was not being able to graduate on time in May 2024. This challenge had a profound impact on me, to the point where I considered not returning to complete my degree requirements. However, I overcame this obstacle by recognizing that many individuals take longer than four years to earn their degrees. I also came to understand that my journey and God’s plan for me are unique and do not need to align with the timelines of others.

Why did you choose to serve as a PeerForward Alumni?

I chose to serve as a PeerForward Alumni because I have experienced firsthand the transformative impact of this organization. As a proud testament to its effectiveness, I entered the program with the desire to attend college but without a clear understanding of what my journey might look like. PeerForward broadened my perspective and helped me explore various pathways for postsecondary education. Because of this invaluable guidance, I am committed to giving back by supporting and empowering the next generation through this program.

Can you speak a bit on your involvement in PeerForward’s new Operations Cohort? How has the experience been for you thus far?

I am excited to share that I am currently taking on a new role with PeerForward as I work toward certification in The Inaugural Operations Cohort. This experience has been instrumental in helping me navigate life after undergrad, providing opportunities for both personal and professional growth. It has been incredibly rewarding to reflect on how much I’ve grown while creating space for continued development. Additionally, this program has opened doors for me to participate in spaces and conversations I once never imagined being part of. I am deeply grateful for the support and guidance of my amazing cohort and our dedicated trainers. Here’s to new beginnings!
