The Mavericks are taking ACTION, and we are right there with them! PeerForward’s Manager of Corporate and Strategic Partnerships, Cornelius Williams, joined their 2024 Huddle Summit, which brought together Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex (DFW) community partners to learn and unite with a diverse group of current and former Dallas Mavericks players, team representatives, and leaders of the Mavs Foundation. The Huddle focused on the action needed to eliminate racial divides, uplift communities, and empower future generations.
We spoke to Cornelius about how this event impacted both him as an individual, and the future of PeerForward. He shared:
“This event introduced [PeerForward] to new ideas, community needs, and various partners within the broader DFW Metroplex. During a table discussion before the main panel, we were asked to discuss how we could all potentially support the DFW community. I spoke for my table and highlighted our ideas for advancing education equity. We concluded that, while we all have special powers/resources, we need one another to make a greater impact. It takes a village, and we are just that.”
While in attendance, Cornelius had the opportunity to share PeerForward’s mission with the audience. Following his speech, he was approached to do a private interview for the Dallas Mavericks’ promo video in which he shared more about the PeerForward program and its impact. He also took the time to network with several organizers and fellow attendees. One connection he made was with the legendary CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, Cynt Marshall, who was so excited to meet a representative from PeerForward and discuss how we can collaborate in the future!
We asked Cornelius for any closing thoughts on the Huddle Summit, and he stated:
“Overall, the event reinvigorated my understanding of the challenges our students and their families face in Dallas and the systemic challenges that are being addressed. The work is being done and we are a part of that! We are not alone in this. Let’s stay motivated and continue, as the Mavs say, to Listen, Learn, and Unite.”
